3 recommended Bluetooth headphones.Introducing the best model selected for operability, fit and sound quality

If you want to enjoy your favorite music with the utmost immersive feeling, headphones are recommended. Wireless is even better because you can enjoy audio anywhere without worrying about the hassle of cords. High-spec headphones are packed with features that were unthinkable a long time ago, such as advanced noise canceling functions, call quality, and a mode that recognizes the situation and captures external sounds. So, this time, I would like to introduce Wirecutter's recommended Bluetooth headphones!

Wirecutter has tested a number of wireless headphones in all respects, including operability, fit and sound quality. As a result, the number one recommendation this time was decided to be the Jabra Elite 85h, which offers intuitive operability and a comfortable fit. Over-ear headphones that you'll be looking forward to using every day, and easy to pair. The controls are simple and easy to understand, and with great sound, clear calls, active noise canceling function, long-life battery, and water resistance, it is an almighty performer that can be used in all situations.

Recommended number one almighty honor student: Jabra Elite 85h

Great sound, great design. The Jabra Elite 85h is superior in every way compared to other products in the same price range.

The Jabra Elite 85h has everything you need for Bluetooth headphones. Equipped with an automatic Bluetooth pairing function and large and easy-to-use operation buttons, it can be set up intuitively so that you can enjoy great sound right out of the box. Battery life is 36 hours with active noise cancel ON. You can play for 5 hours with a 15-minute charge, and charging is speedy. In cooperation with Amazon, Apple, and Google voice assistants, the quality of the microphone during a call is very clear. It is also water resistant and has a two year warranty against rain damage. The active noise canceling function is not as good as the Bose Noise Canceling Headphones 700, but it does reduce noise.

Basic headphones recommended for those who want to keep their budget down: Jabra Elite 45h

Cospa's best wireless headphones for about $ 100 (11,400 yen). This product offers more sound, fit and functionality than the price. It cannot be used by wire, but the battery has a long life and does not need to be charged frequently.

The Jabra Elite 45h is the best cospa product that firmly inherits the legacy of Jabra Move, which is reasonably priced and has the necessary and sufficient quality. You can enjoy sound quality, comfort, and clear calls that are several times better than the price. You can also customize the sound to your liking using the free Jabra app. The body is lightweight and the pillow type ear pads are designed so that they won't hurt even if you wear them for several hours. The sensitivity of the microphone is also good, making it ideal for phone calls and video chats. It can be used for more than 50 hours on a single charge, so you don't have to charge it all the time. You can rest assured that there is a 2-year warranty against malfunctions caused by dust and water. It doesn't have a noise-can function, and you can't listen to it by wire, but if you don't need these functions, it's a gem you can't miss.

Recommended for discerning groups! : Sony WH-1000XM4

The best wireless headphones for the office. Full-featured headphones created by Sony that significantly reduce ambient noise for great sound. However, it is a little expensive and the setting is complicated.

The Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones block out the voice around you, making them perfect for working in a busy office. Comfortable to wear for a day, the high-performance microphone perfectly cuts the background sound during phone calls and video conferences. There are also many app-based bonus features such as a chat function that turns on "recognition mode" and pauses music when it senses the user's voice.

By default, it's not "best sound quality", but if you don't mind adjusting the equalizer in the app (or even if it's fun), the XM4 delivers unrivaled sound. Will do it. By the way, the noise canceling function of this product is good at "human voice", but it is not effective against the noise generated by airplanes. It also has no water resistance.

People who want to recommend Bluetooth headphones

Bluetooth headphones are for those who don't like being connected to a music playback device with a cable, and those who are willing to spend a little budget to get rid of it. It's also perfect if you have a smartphone that doesn't have a headphone jack and you don't want to use an adapter. Bluetooth audio quality has come a long way in evolution, and now you can expect sound quality that is comparable to high-quality wired headphones.

This guide focuses on the headphone type, so if you don't like earphones that fit in your ears, this is a must-see. By the way, the battery lasts longer with headphones, and you have to spend a lot of money to get earphones with the same functions as the headphones we recommend this time.

If you have a lot of video chats and calls, I think a headset with a microphone is easier to use than headphones. There are some wireless ones, but not many can enjoy high quality music.

Some Bluetooth headphones have an active noise canceling function, but in this guide, we prioritized "sound quality, comfort, and ease of use." At the moment, it seems difficult to achieve both the best sound quality and the best active noise canceling function, so I think that there is little regret if you first decide what you prioritize and then select the product.

Full-featured and recommended number one Bluetooth wireless headphones: Jabra Elite 85h

The appeal of the Jabra Elite 85h is "elegant and simple design". It may sound easy at first glance, but other competing products often find it annoying in every detail, and you can see how important this is. While other Bluetooth headphones are designed to make it easy to mis-operate the buttons, the Elite 85h is easy to operate on any device platform and easy to pair. It also works with Amazon, Apple, and Google voice assistants. The sound quality is perfect for both music and calls. It fits comfortably and has a battery life of up to 36 hours. The noise can is also reasonable, and it comes with a two-year warranty against failure caused by getting wet in the rain. In a nutshell, the Jabra Elite 85h is an easy-to-use, just fun headphone. The price is reasonable, so you can feel free to use it every day.

Having tested over 200 Bluetooth headphones and paired them with many devices over the last four years, the Elite 85h pairing experience is impressive. The power turns on as soon as you unfold the product, and it automatically goes into pairing mode if it is not connected to a Bluetooth device. No need to press a button. If you have a previously paired device nearby, connect to two recently used devices at the same time.

This dual connection is very convenient, for example, if you receive a call while listening to music on your computer, you can quickly and seamlessly move on to the call. There is no need to operate buttons by manual switching. To turn off the headphones, just fold them again. This simplicity is what makes this product so appealing.

The Elite 85h headphones are solidly made with fabric material and a soft shock absorbing pad. It has less plastic feel than competing products in the same price range. You don't have to worry if it gets wet in the rain as it is covered by a 2-year warranty even if it is damaged by water or dust.

The operation of the buttons is so simple that you can control it just by groping. There are not too many buttons, not too few, and it has a large and unique feel. Some products are touch-sensitive, but they may not respond well to rain or sweat, or they may be mistakenly recognized when worn. In that respect, the buttons on the Elite 85h are water resistant and the sensor does not react in unexpected places.

This product is light and comfortable to wear for a long time. If you are wearing glasses, there may be gaps and the noise canceling effect may be diminished, but since the pad material is soft, you do not have to worry about your ears hurt even if you have glasses.

The battery life was long and lasted 36 hours even with Active Neucan turned on. By the way, 41 hours without noise canceling. It is encouraging because it is equipped with a "quick charge function" that can be used for 5 hours with a 15-minute charge even if the battery is empty. In addition, the "on-ear detection function" that automatically pauses music when you remove the headphones and resumes when you put it on further saves battery power. The included 12-inch cable is a bit short, but I'm grateful that it can be used even while charging.

The Elite 85h enjoys great sound right out of the box, but you can use the free Jabra Sound + app to adjust the equalizer to get the sound you want. Overall, the sound quality of 85h is excellent, and you can enjoy three-dimensional depth without consonants sticking in your ears or low-frequency sounds such as male vocals and bass guitars blurring. The sound quality is consistently satisfactory regardless of whether the active noise cancel is on or off and whether it is wired or wireless.

This product is also ideal for calling. The sound is clear and the multi-microphone reduces the noise behind the speaker. As with a regular phone, you can hear part of your voice during a call, so you don't have to speak loudly. The delay is not noticeable, and it is also recommended for watching videos.

If you want to talk to someone in front of you, or if you don't want to be completely cut off from the outside world, the hear-through feature that sends ambient sound to your headphones via the internal microphone is useful. This is a popular feature that is also used on the Jabra Elite 75t. It's a good balance between ambient sound and music, so it's not unpleasant or too artificial. You can turn active noise can and hear-through on and off via the dedicated button on the left earcup or the Jabra app.

Active noise canceling is mild and reduces low frequency noise, but it does not completely eliminate it. However, I think that some people may find the strong noise canceling function unpleasant, so I think that this relatively gentle noise canceling function may be more suitable. In fact, some panelists in this test felt "pressure" and headaches with aggressive over-ear headphones like the Bose QuietComfort 35 Series II.

Points to be worried about

As mentioned earlier, the Jabra Elite 85h's active noise-can feature effectively reduces low-frequency sounds, but it's not as effective as the Bose Noise Canceling Headphones 700. However, I also like the noise-can function, and I think that is not the highest priority for some people. The Jabra Elite 85h has all the other features, so it should cover the noise-can performance well.

The Jabra Sound + app has some bonus features that look good at first glance but can't really be used ... For example, the "smart active ANC function" is said to automatically adjust the noise canceling and hear-through functions according to the surrounding conditions, but it was unexpectedly unusable and was turned off after all. "Find My Jabra" is a function that finds headphones by location information, but it tells you "the position where the headphones were last turned on near the device with the app". In other words, if you turn off the headphones and then move the location, the map will not be updated. Moreover, the mapping is building-based and not room-by-room, so you don't know exactly where it is.

Like many of the wireless headphones we tested this time, the cord that came with the Elite 85h doesn't come with a remote control or microphone. However, Jabra's active noise-canning feature works when used wired, and headphone volume control works regardless of which device you're using.

The best wireless headphones you can buy for the 10,000 yen range: Jabra Elite 45h

Jabra Elite 45h headphones are an affordable and great performance product. The sound quality is excellent, the lightweight design makes it comfortable to wear for hours. It's easy to operate and I'm glad that you can remember it immediately. The microphone voice is also clear, making it ideal for calls and video chats. Can be used for 50 hours on a full charge. One of the panelists who participated in this test said, "Sound quality comparable to headphones in the 30,000 yen class". If you want more sound quality, you'll need double your budget. Some may prefer larger over-ear headphones, but for those who wear glasses, this design should be more comfortable to wear. There's no active noise-canning feature or an audio cable for when it's out of charge, but it's a great choice for those who don't need these features.

High-tech products are often expensive, but the Jabra 45h is an exception. The sound is better than the more expensive products, and you can enjoy the sound you like without the hassle of customizing the equalizer with the Jabra app. With a sound stage that gives you a sense of depth and three-dimensionality, it plays music of all genres with comfortable sound. By default, the bass and treble are a little sharp, but this can also be corrected with the app, so there is no problem. The mid-low range has a slightly muddy impression, and it does not disappear completely even with an equalizer, but this is acceptable. It can be said that headphones at this price will not be a negative point at all.

Regarding the fit, all the panelists who participated in the test answered that it was "comfortable". The ear pads are made of a shock-absorbing material like a memory foam pillow, and the padded headband does not catch your hair or scratch your scalp. Due to its on-ear design, it may be more comfortable for those wearing glasses than the over-ear Elite 85h. The ear cups have a swivel function, a headband with a gentle holding force and a soft pad, so you don't have to worry about the tightening feeling, and the ear cups do not press the frame of the eyeglasses.

Elite 45h headphones do not block ambient noise as much as other recommended products, and they do not have an active noise canceling function, so they may not be suitable for long flights. While I was writing a review of this product, a 5-year-old boy was playing in the same room, but the sound of the game and the spectacular space war pretend voice would get in the way as long as the music was playing. There was not.

This product has excellent microphone performance, reduces ambient noise and wind noise, and delivers a clear voice, so it is also recommended for people who have many calls and online conferences. I tried a call test under the two conditions of "quiet room" and "while blowing the wind of a Vornade fan on my face", but in both cases, this voice reached the other party firmly. It seems. When you enter the wind noise reduction mode, the voice of "voice" is compressed a little, but it does not look like a weather caster that tells the state of a typhoon, so it will not be a problem if you consider the price.

The Elite 45h is simple to operate, easy to remember, and uses physical buttons, making it intuitively easy to use. It's not too noisy to click, and it won't accidentally turn on when you wipe and clean your earcups. The voice assistant button can be customized to launch Siri, Google Assistant, and Amazon Alexa. I am grateful that it has a dedicated button that clearly shows whether the power is on or off.

Since 45h can connect to two devices at once, it is convenient for people who frequently switch devices such as smartphones and PCs to switch devices relatively seamlessly. However, if one device is a laptop, you may experience handshake issues. For example, if you're listening to music on your mobile phone and you launch a website that has an autoplay video, such as a commercial, the sound will switch to your laptop, and even if you pause the video, it will stay there until you close the page. Well, this shouldn't be a big deal.

However, if your favorite audio playlists are often interrupted, try disconnecting your unused devices. Even if you disconnect it, the pairing will not be canceled, and you can connect it again when you use it again. This issue is not limited to 45h, but is a common issue for devices with dual connections.

Jabra describes the battery life of the Elite 45h as "playing for 50 hours on a full charge", but in actual testing it was even longer, playing for 60 hours. In other words, it starts on Thursday morning and lasts until Saturday night. Assuming you play music or podcasts for 8 hours a day, you only need to charge it about once a week. Of course, please note that the battery performance will be slightly affected by the call and volume.

In addition, this product has a quick charge function, so it can be played for 10 hours with a 15-minute charge. It can be fully charged in about an hour and a half and can be used while charging.

As mentioned earlier, the Elite 45h does not have an analog cable, which may be inconvenient for those with devices that do not support Bluetooth connectivity (such as desktops). However, the number of wireless-only devices is increasing recently, and considering that it has such battery performance and quick charging function, it can be said that it is a very easy-to-use headphone.

Jabra is also valued for its solid customer service and build quality, with a two-year warranty against dust and water failures. However, it does not support IP standards and is not designed to be used while sweating in the gym, for example. Dashing tens of meters from the parking lot to the store on a rainy day may be tolerable, but not suitable for water-based activities.

The Jabra app has a "My Sound" setting that adjusts the equalizer based on a simple hearing test, making it easy to use for those suffering from mild hearing loss. In this test, there was an opinion that activating "My Sound" did not change much in the audio (naturally because none of the panelists had hearing problems), so I did it myself rather than My Sound. Many people said that a customized sound balance was better. However, the hearing test using the app does not reveal the details, so if you have any concerns about hearing, please consult a specialist.

Customized wireless headphones for discerning groups: Sony WH-1000XM4

The Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones are nice with convenient additional features such as a comfortable fit, reliable noise reduction, clear microphone quality, and voice activation recognition mode. This over-ear type product comes with a lot of accessories that "satisfy both businessmen and audio lovers", but the price is also higher. Also, if you want to enjoy the features of XM4, you have to make quite complicated settings in the app. Even so, after overcoming that difficulty, you can enjoy Bluetooth headphones with the best sound and the highest technology.

Like its predecessor, the WH-1000XM3, the XM4 has a three-dimensional sewn ear pad and headband made of low-resilience urethane material for a light and comfortable build quality. The right earcup has a touch sensor control panel and the left earcup has two physical buttons. Physical buttons are usually easier to use, like the Jabra 85h, but Sony's touch sensors don't "carelessly touch" or react too much to humidity or temperature. The physical multi-function buttons on the left earcup can be customized to your liking, such as switching between noise-can modes and activating Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

The XM3's touch control had a temperature-related malfunction, but the XM4 has fixed this problem. In this test, I actually put the headphones in the freezer for a few minutes, but there was no particular problem (* Please do not imitate). In the future, I would like to look at it from the perspective of long-term use.

The XM4 excels in reducing ambient sounds, especially human speech and baby crying, and should be useful in cafes, offices, and working from home. I'm not very good at low frequency sounds such as airplane engine sounds and air conditioner operating sounds, and I can't fine-tune Active Neucan.

The real thrill and drawback of the Sony WH-1000XM4 is that it cannot be said to be a "favorite sound" with the default settings. The presence of the bass and mid-low range is too strong, and it feels like the treble is dented. In other words, it's a cloudy sound like looking at a photo through a thin piece of gauze, and you can see the lack of detail. However, if you adjust the equalizer of the app (such as lowering the bass and treble a little and raising the high frequencies in the bass slightly ... etc.), you will get a lot closer to the ideal sound.

As if the fog had cleared, the XM4 has joined the ranks of "best-sounding Bluetooth headphones." The treble is clear and delicate, and the bass is punchy and pitched. However, the big drawback is that it takes a lot of time to get this sound. How good would this be right after opening it from the box? Machine enthusiasts and audiophiles may enjoy playing with sound, but for those who don't, it may not be possible to overcome the hurdle of "priced but troublesome".

According to Sony, the battery life of this product is up to 30 hours when the active noise canceling function is ON, and up to 38 hours when it is OFF, but when I tested it with "Volume 60%, Active noise canceling ON", it was only 26 hours. It was. By the way, when I made a short call, it decreased to 24 hours. However, this model has an excellent quick charge function and can be used for about 5 hours after charging for 10 minutes. So, this seems to be enough for the battery. Battery performance varies depending on the volume, talk time, and the presence / absence of the noise canceling function.

An alert will appear when the battery is low, and you can check the battery level by tapping the power button. However, since the remaining amount is measured in 10% increments, if "10%" is displayed, it means "1% to 10%", so be careful as it may end suddenly. Is required. Since it comes with an analog cable, you can listen to it by wire, but there is no remote control and microphone.

The Sony Headphones app has a wealth of customizable options that allow you to turn on, off, or change almost any feature. For example, by linking with the GPS information of the registered smartphone, it is also possible to automatically adjust the noise canceling and external sound capture according to the places you visit frequently. Of course, you can turn it off if you don't need the feature. You might think, "Isn't it normal that you can turn off features you don't want to use?", But there are surprisingly many headphone apps that can't turn off useless features.

What was very attractive about the Sony XM4's function was that it detected that the user was "speaking" when he spoke while listening to music, paused music playback, and switched to external sound capture mode. It is a new function that becomes. When you stop speaking, the mode turns off again and the music resumes. You can adjust the time to switch (15 seconds to 1 minute) or choose manual shutoff. Whether you're ordering coffee at a cafe, answering questions from colleagues, or responding to your child's voice while preparing dinner, you'll never let go of this feature once you have it.

The XM4 also has a pretty good microphone. In terms of call quality, it's the best Bluetooth headphones alongside the Jabra 85h. This mic has excellent features that pick up the speaker's voice and reduce background noise, so you can clearly hear video conferences at work and on the go. When testing the microphone in front of the fan, the XM4 seemed to recognize the user's voice through an internal sensor, and when I stopped speaking, the microphone turned off. This means that the other party on the phone will not be exposed to the sound of the wind all the time. I could hear the wind when I was talking, but it didn't seem to be out of reach. The noise reduction software also compresses the tone of the voice to some extent, but it is not noticeable.

The XM4 also has some other music-related features such as 360 Reality Audio and DSEE Extreme. 360 Reality Audio offers a more three-dimensional, immersive audio experience, but unfortunately there aren't many compatible media so far, and even the highest-ranked subscriptions don't have a lot of lineups. I tried it once, but I couldn't feel the difference in sound quality as much as it cost thousands of yen a month.

Regarding DSEE Extreme, it is said that it has the effect of up-converting audio files on the spot and compensating for details omitted by compression. But unless you have a large collection of old MP3s, you won't see much benefit. There is no problem even if you start DSEE, but it seems that you can not expect a significant sound quality improvement effect.

There are still!Recommended over-ear on-ear Bluetooth headphones

Apple AirPods Max: In a nutshell, "wireless headphones with great sound and design." It can be easily paired with an Apple device and has the highest noise-canning function ever in the frequency band that matches the noise of airplanes.

JBLは、Under Armour Project Rock Over-Ear Training Headphonesを発表。
