macOS 11.3 released! Check it out for HomePod users

macOS 11.3 Big Sur has been released with many new features.

Among them is the ability to set the audio output to stereo on your HomePod's smart speakers by default.

The iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple TV all support HomePod stereo pairs by default, but the Mac is finally joining the ranks.

Supports audio playback on two HomePods

Previously, macOS users could send audio to two HomePod speakers via AirPlay.

However, by default, audio was only played on one speaker, so every time I wanted to play audio on two HomePod speakers, I had to set it manually.

Play audio on two HomePod speakers for a richer, more immersive sound experience.

This can be selected as an output option in your Mac's Sound Output list by going to System Preferences> Sound.

Earlier this year, Apple announced that it would stop selling large HomePod smart speakers and instead focus on smaller HomePod minis.

The HomePod mini is also a great speaker.

So while Apple seems to have moved away from the first-generation HomePod, we're happy to see that it continues to support and improve its features.
