The boldness of IMAX movies on home TV and the content of the new standard "IMAX Enhanced" introduced by Disney+

Disney's video release Service "Disney+" added "IMAX Enhanced" on November 12th as a new audio-visual way for Marvell works. Characterized by larger images, it is the specification to achieve high-quality images and sound. At this point, it is reminiscent of Dolby's vision and Dolby Atmos. And fortunately, most existing televisions can benefit from the new standard.

Like the various image standards corresponding to many televisions, IMAX Enhanced is a complex combination of image and audio specifications. These standards play a role in achieving the highest quality when the studio organizes the film into a home format and publishes it (at least under the studio selection criteria, this is the story under such conditions).

In most cases, viewers only need to confirm their compatibility with television. For example, in order to hear the sound mixed in Dolby Atmus, it is necessary to check whether the sound bar corresponds to Dolby Atmos. In addition, even if you are not sure of anything, the necessary settings are the completed structure.

IMAX Enhanced differs from other specifications in the "IMAX" section. Movies shot for the IMAX giant screen must use a special camera that can be shot at a longer aspect ratio (the shape of the frame) than ordinary movies.

This difference was recently highlighted in the Justis League by coach Zack Snyder. Instead of setting the black belt up and down as usual, the left and right sides are set to the black belt to stream in a more longitudinal, square-like shape. This can have a huge impact on the audio-visual experience.

The "black belt" at the top and bottom of the picture has been greatly reduced.

Most of the movies are shown in widescreen format. Generally speaking, the shape of the screen is represented by the aspect ratio of the picture, so it is called "aspect ratio". The movie's ultra-wide format has a ratio of 2.39 to 1, which means that the banner on the screen is 2.39 times larger than the vertical.

On the other hand, the enlarged aspect ratio of the IMAX version is 1.9, which is quite long even at the same width. When using an IMAX camera in a movie, as Marvell did in "Doctor Series" and "Gardians of Galaxy: remix", some sequences such as action scenes are usually shot with this aspect ratio.

Like Avengers / Infiniti Wars and Avengers / Terminal Games, it is rare to shoot an entire movie at this aspect ratio. These scenes and the whole movie, especially at the IMAX Theater, are bigger and more gripping.

However, there are also problems. If you want to combine the format of these films with the credit of the family, it will generally be limited to the ultra-aspect ratio. In other words, all the shots of the IMAX movie are trimmed, and in the online version, all the parts protruding from the slender frame are lost.

This is not a big problem in most cases, but it will certainly make the movie look a little different. What is even more disturbing is that IMAX movies are mailboxes, showing huge black belts up and down.

In contrast, in the new "IMAX Enhanced" format, a considerable number of missing screen areas can be recovered in the past. Because the aspect ratio of the TV is usually 1.77, which is slightly longer, there is only a small amount of black belt in this format. However, compared with previous super-large screen movies, it can display about 26% of the images.
